Travel Spotlight: Caribbean Costa Rica

This region is a unique blend of Native, Afro-Caribbean, and Latino culture. Native to the area are the Bribri and Cabécar tribes who gathered generational knowledge surviving off of natural resources. In the 19th century, English -speaking Afro-Caribbean people, mainly from Jamaica, arrived and established villages in the area. They introduced a new language, culture, and industries such as farming cacao, which became a key cash-crop for the local economy. More recently, Spanish – speaking people migrated to the region adding to the melting pot and forming the unique culture seen present day across the people, the lifestyle, and the cuisine
